In this article we discuss the next trait and habit of peak performers: MOTIVATION. Actually, Motivation plus Drive equals peak performance.
Tony Robbins, an American motivational speaker, is a prime example of a peak performer. You may like his style or you may not. If not, just focus on the principles here.
If you have not heard of Tony, here is a quick summary. Tony Robbins is a #1 New York Times best-selling author, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. For more than 37 years, millions of people have enjoyed the warmth, humor and dynamic presentation of Mr. Robbins’ corporate and personal development events. As the nation’s #1 life and business strategist, he’s called upon to consult and coach some of the world’s finest athletes, entertainers, Fortune 500 CEOs, and even presidents of nations. Tony and his team have booked themselves as speakers for many years.
Tony wanted to be the best at what he does and give a peak performance every time he spoke – so he booked as many as 3 talks a day, at least 3 to 5 talks days a week. His two goals were to perfect his performance and gain the knowledge he needed by training 10x harder than anyone else.
Tony Robbins and other peak performers have “drive”. This is the dynamic quality that allows them to wake up at least two to four hours earlier than the normal person and get a jump on the day.
Picture yourself like this. You are a very self-motivated individual. You are driven by a need to succeed and be successful. You work your hardest and are driven to do more and more. In fact, you go above and beyond what is expected of you and are often told that you are driven. You are also a very ambitious individual who loves the challenge of the unknown. Your drive to succeed and achieve is second to none. You often work the most hours and the longest shifts in the hope of bettering yourself.
The most productive hours of the day are the early morning hours. Exercise is an important part of peak performance, as it is a way of waking up the body and getting it ready for the day ahead.
Eat a healthy breakfast that will give them energy to start the day.
There are a lot of ways to get motivated. Some people find that they get into the right mindset by meditating, reading motivational books or watching motivational videos. Others engage their drive factor in a more direct way. Others rediscover their big “WHY”.
There is no ‘best way’ to be motivated and productive. Some people are more productive early in the day and others later in the day. Each person has a different productivity style and a different way of working best for them.
Action Steps:
A) Check your positivity frequently throughout the day. Where are you on a scale of 1 to 5? If you do this and notice you are slipping from 5 down to 2, take action.
B) Give yourself small rewards, daily, weekly, monthly for the work you do to stay totally motivated. Having drive and motivation should be fun, not a serious chore.
C) You should work with a coach. Get accountable. Let your coach kick your butt if you fall off the motivation bandwagon. This can also help with maintaining a positive attitude.
